Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira is set to be unveiled as the new head coach of the Senegal national team after reaching an agreement with the Senegalese Football Federation.

According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Vieira has agreed to lead the Teranga Lions project with immediate effect.

The former Crystal Palace manager had recently emerged as a leading candidate for the Senegal coaching job and subsequently held talks with the country’s football authorities.

Vieira will replace Pape Thiaw as head coach of the Senegal national team, taking charge of a side with ambitions of maintaining its status as one of Africa’s leading football nations.

The Frenchman brings considerable managerial experience to the position, having previously coached Strasbourg, Nice and Genoa, in addition to his spell at Crystal Palace.

The appointment will mark another major chapter in Vieira’s post-playing career, following his successful playing days with Arsenal, where he became one of the club’s most influential midfielders and a key figure in its history.
