Yari Defends Tinubu, Says Even Buhari Could Not Completely End Insecurity

Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari has defended President Bola Tinubu’s handling of Nigeria’s security challenges, saying former President Muhammadu Buhari also failed to completely eliminate insecurity despite his military background.

Yari made the remarks on Monday, October 19, 2026, during a visit to Kebbi State, where he met with Governor Nasir Idris, traditional rulers and other political leaders in Birnin Kebbi.

The former governor acknowledged the security challenges confronting the country but maintained that the Tinubu administration was making efforts to address the situation.

He recalled that Buhari, a retired Army General, had made efforts to tackle insecurity during his tenure but was unable to completely resolve the problem.

Yari argued that Tinubu should not be judged harshly for the persistent security challenges, noting that even a former military officer with extensive experience could not bring insecurity to an end.

“If a retired general did his best but could not completely tackle insecurity, what do you expect of President Tinubu, who is not a general? Nevertheless, the President has done his utmost best to address the security challenges confronting the country,” he said.

Yari’s comments come amid continued concerns over insecurity in different parts of Nigeria, with calls for stronger measures to protect lives and property.
