A 35-year-old zookeeper, Babaji Daule, tragically lost his life on Saturday evening after being attacked by a lion at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Wildlife Park in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released on Sunday morning by the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola. According to the report, the unfortunate event occurred around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday and was subsequently reported to the divisional police station before being escalated to the state command office.
The statement reads: “On September 28, 2024, at about 7:40 hrs, the Chief Security Officer of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library informed the divisional police officer that a 35-year-old man named Babaji Daule from Bauchi State, who was a trained handler of a male lion at the Zoological Garden in OOPL Abeokuta, tragically lost his life.”
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.
