10-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shoots Teen Neighbour During Dispute Over Loud Music in US

A 10-year-old boy has fatally shot his 16-year-old female neighbour during a confrontation between his mother and the teenager over loud music in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following a disagreement between the boy’s mother, 40-year-old Elaina Gomez-Villeda, and her neighbours.

According to reports, Gomez-Villeda initially complained about the neighbours’ loud music. The disagreement later escalated into a physical altercation involving the teenager, identified as Keinerlein Rangel, and her mother.

Authorities said Gomez-Villeda allegedly instructed her son to retrieve her handgun during the confrontation. The boy reportedly returned with the weapon and fired a shot, killing Rangel.

Following the shooting, Gomez-Villeda allegedly sent a text message to her husband, saying she was likely going to jail, before contacting emergency services.

Police said the situation escalated further when the victim’s father allegedly attempted to force his way into Gomez-Villeda’s apartment while she was speaking to emergency responders.

Gomez-Villeda reportedly told investigators that she subsequently fired a gun at the man, claiming she feared for her life.

When Albuquerque police officers arrived at the scene at about 4 p.m., they reportedly observed gunfire coming from inside the apartment. Officers took cover, and one officer fired at Gomez-Villeda but missed.

The 10-year-old boy has not been publicly identified because of his age. Authorities are reportedly working with prosecutors and state officials to determine whether any charges can be brought against him.

His mother, however, has been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, negligently making a firearm accessible to a minor, misdemeanor battery and receiving stolen property.

The incident remains under investigation.
