Renowned Nigerian cleric, Prophet Ebuka Obi, is embroiled in a controversy involving allegations of orchestrating fraudulent miracles amounting to ₦500 million. The accusations have sparked widespread debate about the authenticity of certain religious practices within the country.

This development aligns with previous concerns raised by notable figures regarding deceptive religious activities. For instance, in February 2024, outspoken Catholic priest Ejike Mbaka claimed that numerous Nigerian clerics were delivering fake prophecies and conducting false miracles to gain money and fame. He asserted that such actions have led to the destruction of families and misled many followers.

Similarly, in January 2024, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele cautioned Nigerian clerics against issuing fake prophecies about the country’s future. He emphasized that many prophecies opposing Nigeria’s unity and progress are not divinely inspired and urged citizens to remain hopeful and discerning.

The current allegations against Prophet Obi have intensified discussions about the need for accountability and transparency among religious leaders. As investigations proceed, the public awaits further information on the outcomes and potential implications for religious practices in Nigeria.
