Four passengers lost their lives in Bihar’s Nawada district on Wednesday after coming into contact with a live electric wire.

The incident took place in Rajiv Nagar village under the jurisdiction of Nadriganj police station. The victims were traveling on a bus from Rajgir in Nalanda district to Gaya via Nawada when the accident occurred.

According to police reports, a fallen tree had blocked the road, prompting some passengers to disembark and clear the obstruction. While doing so, a high-voltage electric wire broke and fell on them, causing fatal burns.

“Three passengers died on the spot due to electrocution, while another succumbed to injuries at the hospital,” a police officer said.

Other passengers on the bus also received electric shocks after the vehicle made contact with the wire. They were rushed to a nearby hospital and later discharged after treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fallen tree and assessing any potential negligence in power line maintenance. Meanwhile, residents have called for immediate action to prevent similar tragedies.

This incident comes months after a similar case in July 2024, when 14 people participating in a Muharram procession in Araria district were electrocuted after accidentally touching a high-voltage transmission wire.
