Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday signed 20 agreements covering energy, transport and economic cooperation during high-level talks in Beijing.

The two leaders also adopted a joint declaration aimed at strengthening their strategic partnership and promoting what they described as a “multipolar world order,” signaling a deeper alignment between Moscow and Beijing amid ongoing tensions with Western countries.

Speaking after the summit, Putin said Russia and China had developed a stable trade system protected from external pressure and fluctuations in global markets. He noted that both countries increasingly rely on national currencies the ruble and yuan for bilateral trade.

According to Putin, nearly all import and export transactions between Russia and China are now conducted in the two currencies, a move he said has strengthened economic cooperation and reduced dependence on Western financial systems.

The Russian leader also reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted oil and gas supplies to China. He added that Russia’s state nuclear company, Rosatom, is continuing work on new power units at Chinese nuclear facilities as part of expanding civilian nuclear cooperation.

Putin further highlighted growing tourism ties between the neighboring countries, saying more than two million Russians visited China in 2025, while over one million Chinese tourists traveled to Russia during the same period under a visa-free travel arrangement.

The agreements signed in Beijing are expected to further strengthen the long-standing partnership between Russia and China as both countries seek closer cooperation in trade, energy and global diplomacy.
