The Anambra State Government has prohibited the use of mobile phones by secondary school students across the state to curb distractions and enhance academic performance.

The Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, announced the ban on Friday during the Anambra Schools’ Cultural Day celebration in Awka.

Prof. Ikediugwu directed school principals and teachers to seize mobile devices found with students, stressing that the policy aims to instill discipline and promote learning.

“I am authorizing school authorities to confiscate phones from students to ensure they remain focused on their studies,” she stated.

She further emphasized Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to improving education and fostering academic excellence.

Speaking on the significance of cultural preservation, Prof. Ikediugwu highlighted Igbo heritage beyond attire and dance, advocating for values such as honesty, diligence, and respect for elders to be instilled in students.
