The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Tuesday thwarted an attempt to smuggle four assault rifles into Israel from Egypt using a drone.

According to the military, troops detected the drone as it crossed the Egyptian border and successfully brought it down. The drone and the weapons it carried were later handed over to Israeli police for further investigation.

This incident marks the latest in a string of aerial smuggling attempts in recent weeks. In a separate case on March 25, the IDF’s Home Front Command intercepted a drone carrying 50 kilograms of drugs.

Security forces have also been dealing with cross-border smuggling from Israel into Gaza, where drones have been used to transport weapons and narcotics. In response, the IDF has conducted targeted airstrikes on suspected operatives within the Gaza Strip.
