A suspected employment fraudster, Idris Adamu, voluntarily turned himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Gombe State on Monday, confessing to impersonation and obtaining money under false pretences.

According to a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the middle-aged man walked into the commission’s Gombe zonal office around 1:00 p.m., requesting to see the Acting Zonal Director, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad.

“He said he wanted to confess some hidden truths about the crimes he had committed in the past,” Oyewale stated.

During the meeting with the director, Adamu reportedly admitted to defrauding multiple individuals by falsely promising them employment in federal government agencies.

“I came to repent of my sins and to confess to the EFCC,” the suspect said. “In the past, I have obtained a total of N9 million through my bank account from different individuals, pretending to secure them jobs in government agencies. I have changed now, but I am afraid of the EFCC.”

Oyewale noted that the acting director thanked Adamu for voluntarily coming forward and ordered his transfer to the commission’s investigation department for further inquiry.

The EFCC has launched a full investigation into the matter.
