Trump: Israel Backs 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire, Awaits Hamas Response
Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Israel has agreed to the terms of a 60-day ceasefire in the ongoing Gaza conflict, placing the next move in the hands of Hamas.
Trump, in a statement shared on his Truth Social platform, said the United States will use the proposed two-month pause in fighting to work with all parties to seek a permanent resolution.
He noted that representatives from Qatar and Egypt—key mediators in the region—will present the latest ceasefire proposal to Hamas.
“I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better – IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” Trump stated.
He also disclosed that U.S. officials held a lengthy and constructive meeting with Israeli counterparts on Tuesday to discuss the plan. However, Israeli authorities have yet to comment publicly.
Trump had previously hinted at a possible breakthrough in the ceasefire negotiations and is expected to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington next week, with the Gaza conflict high on the agenda.
The U.S. has been pushing for a 60-day truce as part of broader efforts to de-escalate the war.
