Muhammad Jibrin Barde, the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has been commended for building, furnishing and donating a 40-bed hostel to the university for students’ use.
The gesture is seen as a major boost in efforts to enhance the varsity’s infrastructure aimed at tackling challenges surrounding hostel accommodation for students.

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere (FUK), Professor Umar Pate, gave the commendation while speaking during a pre-convocation news conference on Tuesday.

Pate also commended other stakeholders for their various interventions towards the development of the institution and supports to enhance welfare of students of the varsity.

Professor Pate said that the quality of the facilities donated by Barde showed his sheer commitment to educational development.

According to him, Barde personally initiated, completed, and furnished the hostel facility to a high standard.

“This is the first of its kind at FUK. The quality of the project is commendable and it reflects a deep commitment to educational development,” the VC stated.
Pate also acknowledged other stakeholders for their supportive roles in the institution’s growth.

He particularly lauded Dr. Bala Bello Tinka (Tinka Point) for his continued assistance to students in their academic pursuits, describing his contributions as impactful and timely.

Additionally, the Vice Chancellor extended appreciation to the Kano State Government for its sustained support to indigenes of the state studying at the university.

He noted that such interventions had been instrumental in reducing the burden on students while improving access to quality education.

Similarly, Pate also thanked the Gombe State Government for allocating land to the university for expansion purposes, emphasising that the provision of additional land is crucial to the institution’s long-term development strategy, which includes infrastructural upgrades and capacity expansion to accommodate a growing student population.

The remarks by the VC come ahead of the university’s 6th to 9th combined convocation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, July 5, 2025, where thousands of graduates will be formally conferred with various degrees.
