Peter Obi Demands Tinubu Disclose Costs and Details of Presidential Jets
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has called on President Bola Tinubu to publicly disclose the costs and lifespan of the newly acquired Presidential Jet. Obi made the request through a series of posts on his X account, addressing the controversy surrounding the government’s decision to purchase a new aircraft despite the economic hardship many Nigerians are facing.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, urging Tinubu to inform Nigerians not only about the cost of the new jet but also the condition and disposal process of the old presidential jets. “Nigerians deserve to know how many old jets there are, how old they are, and why they are being sold,” he said.
The former presidential candidate highlighted that leadership should be defined by openness, stating that withholding such information would diminish public respect for the government. He also noted that the presidential jet represents a symbol of national sovereignty and that its cost is a matter of public interest.
The debate over the purchase of the new Presidential Jet has sparked mixed reactions across the country, as critics accuse the government of excessive spending while over 133 million Nigerians live in multidimensional poverty.
