Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State on Sunday visited several communities in Ifelodun Local Government Area to reassure residents of his administration’s commitment to strengthening public safety and reviving economic activities.

In Oke-Ode, the governor praised residents and security forces for their resilience in the face of recent bandit attacks. He expressed sympathy to families who lost loved ones, pledging government support for victims through social safety programmes and sustained security measures to prevent future assaults.

At Babanla, where he was received by the Oba of Babanla, Oba Aliyu Adegboyega II, and his chiefs, the governor reiterated his commitment to lasting peace.

“We are here in Babanla today to commiserate with you over the unfortunate incident. We assure you and other communities that government will work to prevent a recurrence. It is a sad event which we are determined to curtail,” AbdulRazaq said.

“You can see security commanders are here, and activities have returned to normal in the past week or two. This has never happened before. Obviously, criminal elements pressured elsewhere have infiltrated this peaceful area. But rest assured, they will be flushed out,” he added.

The governor noted with satisfaction the restoration of calm and assured residents that his administration would ensure lasting peace. He also directed the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) to extend support to affected families.

Oba Adegboyega, while commending the governor and federal authorities for swift intervention, disclosed that the attack led to the theft of nine motorcycles, food items, and mobile phones.

“I thank your excellency for this on-the-spot assessment and actions to guarantee peace and security across the state, especially in our community,” the traditional ruler said.

He urged government to harness Babanla’s vast land for economic growth, employment creation, and to deny criminals hiding places.

The governor was accompanied on the tour by the Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Ezra Barkins; Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo; and Ifelodun Chairman, Mr. Femi Yusuf.
