Six Palestinian journalists, including freelancers and network employees, were killed Monday in separate Israeli airstrikes across southern Gaza, according to local media organizations and international outlets.

Among the victims was Mohammad Salama, a photojournalist and cameraman for the Qatar-based network Al Jazeera, which issued a strongly worded statement condemning what it called a “systematic campaign to silence the truth.”

“Al Jazeera Media Network condemns, in the strongest possible terms, this horrific crime committed by the Israeli occupation forces, who have directly targeted and assassinated journalists,” the statement read.

The Associated Press confirmed the death of Mariam Dagga, 33, a visual journalist who had freelanced for the agency since the beginning of the war. “We are shocked and saddened to learn of Mariam’s death,” the AP said in a statement.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate named two other victims as Moaz Abu Taha and Ahmad Abu Aziz. Later in the day, the syndicate and Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis confirmed the death of a sixth journalist, Hassan Douhan, who was reportedly killed by Israeli fire in the Al-Mawasi area.

A separate statement from the family of another injured journalist, Hatem, appealed for urgent medical assistance and cooperation from both Israeli and Gaza authorities.

The deaths come amid intensified Israeli military operations in southern Gaza, where dozens of civilians have also been reported killed or injured.
