China Dominates New Energy Sector, Pioneering Global Transition
China is leading the global shift to new energy sources, positioning itself as one of the fastest countries in energy-intensity reduction, according to Mai Ning, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Energy-intensity reduction refers to the process of minimizing energy usage in the production of goods and services.
Speaking during a virtual global news conference in Beijing, Mai highlighted China’s success in building the world’s largest industrial chain for new energy. The country now provides 70% of global photovoltaic (PV) components and 60% of wind power equipment, which has significantly driven the global energy transition towards green, low-carbon, and sustainable development.
Mai also spotlighted China’s clean energy initiatives in Africa, including the Garissa PV power plant in Kenya, which cuts carbon emissions by 64,000 tonnes annually, and the Kaleta hydropower plant in Guinea, which has eased electricity shortages.
Emphasizing China’s commitment to green development and ecological preservation, Mai pointed to policies discussed during the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. She further noted China’s economic growth, which has been among the world’s fastest, contributing roughly 30% of global economic expansion.
Mai reiterated China’s support for developing countries through capacity-building and international development cooperation, underscoring a vision for peaceful, sustainable, and mutually beneficial global progress.
