Arewa Youths Back Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, Pass Confidence Vote on Finance Minister Edun

The Amalgamated Arewa Youth Group (AAYG) has hailed President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as deliberate and strategic measures aimed at reviving the nation’s economy.

The group, which comprises youth organisations across the 19 Northern states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the Northern diaspora, also passed a vote of confidence in the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Chief Wale Edun.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Convener, Alhaji Abdul Ladduga, AAYG said recent economic indicators showed that the reforms were beginning to yield tangible results.

Ladduga noted that the attainment of the Federal Government’s 2025 revenue target as early as August was a significant milestone, attributing it to improved performance in the non-oil sector.

According to him, the development reflects “a stabilising and increasingly predictable economy,” in line with President Tinubu’s assertion that Nigeria is moving in the right direction.

He further stressed that the elimination of what he called a “corrupt forex regime” had created a level playing field for genuine investors and entrepreneurs while ending undue privileges previously enjoyed through political connections.

“The current foreign exchange regime is a fundamental cleanse of the system. Nobody is trading papers anymore, and access to forex no longer depends on cronyism,” Ladduga said.

The group expressed strong support for the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the ongoing reforms were laying the foundation for infrastructure development, healthcare improvements, food security, and enhanced national security.

AAYG also praised Edun as “the architect and diligent executor of the reforms,” crediting his technical competence and fiscal discipline as instrumental to Nigeria’s economic transition.

“Chief Edun’s stewardship is proving that leadership grounded in expertise and integrity can deliver tangible results for the nation,” Ladduga added.

The group condemned calls for Edun’s removal, describing them as “premature, politically motivated, and a threat to national interest.” It argued that those demanding the minister’s resignation were beneficiaries of the old economic order who now feel threatened by transparency and accountability.

It alleged that former beneficiaries of the scrapped fuel subsidy were regrouping and sponsoring smear campaigns against government officials in an attempt to force a reversal of policy.

Urging Nigerians to support the government’s efforts and remain patient, AAYG maintained that the long-term benefits of the current reforms would be enjoyed by future generations.

“AAYG stands firmly behind the economic direction of the Tinubu administration and the competent management of the economy by Chief Wale Edun,” the statement concluded.
