The FCT chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has conducted a membership verification and revalidation exercise aimed at updating its database and strengthening internal records.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise took place over the weekend at the guild’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The process, which required physical attendance, was designed to sanitise the guild’s membership database, eliminate “ghost members,” and migrate all records to the AGN Super App, a digital data management platform.

The two-day exercise brought together Nollywood actors across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking on the sidelines of the exercise, Chairman of the Screening Committee, Agility Onwurah, said the exercise was in line with directives from the national leadership of the guild.

According to him, the mandatory verification was aimed at standardising and sanitising membership records across all state chapters, adding that members who fail to revalidate risk being removed from the official register.

“As a guild, this periodic verification is part of our operations, especially when we have a new leadership in place,” he said.

“We use it to collate data on both old and new members within and outside the country. It also helps us update identity cards where necessary.”

Onwurah also encouraged members to enrol in the guild’s health insurance scheme to ensure access to prompt and affordable medical care.

“To avoid unexpected health challenges, we are urging members to enrol in our HMO schemes for regular medical checks,” he said. “We have HMOs across the country, and we encourage those who are yet to join to do so.”

Also speaking, the FCT Mayor of AGN, Salma Aminu, said the exercise was intended to improve the accuracy, transparency, and credibility of the guild’s membership database by ensuring that only verified practitioners are recognised.

She commended members who participated in the exercise, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to the growth of the guild.

“There are many people who claim to be members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria who are not registered. This exercise helps us properly identify our members,” she said.

“Those who did not participate in the verification exercise will automatically cease to be members of the guild.”

Some participants who spoke with NAN praised the initiative, describing it as timely and necessary.

Veteran actor and producer Jerry Amilo said the exercise would help eliminate confusion about genuine membership.

“Sometimes you meet people claiming to be members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, and you begin to wonder. This exercise will help us know ourselves better,” he said.

Also speaking, actor Benedict Johnson commended the initiative and urged members to take part fully in future exercises to ensure a smooth database update process.
