NIPOST Intercepts Cannabis Shipment Concealed in Lagos Consignment from Thailand

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has intercepted a consignment containing seven pouches of cannabis concealed inside a duvet cover that arrived in Lagos from Thailand.

In a statement on Tuesday, NIPOST management confirmed that the package originated from Bangkok, Thailand, and was addressed to a recipient in Lagos. Details of both the sender and receiver have been withheld as investigations continue with the relevant security agencies.

According to the agency, the interception highlights NIPOST’s determination to secure its network against illicit activities while protecting the public from the dangers of illegal substances.

“This demonstrates our commitment to transforming the postal industry into a secure, reliable, and trusted channel of communication and commerce,” the statement read.

The matter has since been handed over to security authorities for further action.

NIPOST further stressed its zero-tolerance stance on the use of its postal network for criminal purposes, in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The agency assured Nigerians that it remains resolute in safeguarding the integrity of its operations while supporting national security, economic growth, and public trust.
