Troops Rescue Kidnap Victim, Recover Arms in Katsina-Ala

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued a kidnapped victim, Mr. Teryima Torbee, and recovered arms during an operation in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi.

Zubairu disclosed that the rescue took place at Agera Nagu, Mbagina, in Michihe council ward of Katsina-Ala, following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected criminals.

He explained that the operation was conducted in collaboration with operatives of the Benue Civil Protection Guard (BSCPG).

“On arrival, a firefight ensued with the criminals who were overwhelmed by the firepower of the gallant soldiers. The criminals fled in disarray, abandoning their victim, Mr. Teryima Torbee, a 43-year-old man, who was immediately rescued unhurt,” Zubairu said.

According to him, items recovered from the scene include one FN rifle, five magazines, and 83 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.

He further quoted the OPWS Commander, Maj.-Gen. Moses Gara, as commending the troops for their resilience, professionalism, and swift response which ensured the safe rescue of the victim and recovery of the exhibits.

Maj.-Gen. Gara also appreciated the cooperation of the Civil Protection Guard operatives and urged communities to sustain support for security agencies through timely information sharing.

He reaffirmed OPWS’ commitment to ongoing operations aimed at ridding Benue and neighboring states of criminal elements.
