The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a security guard for allegedly abducting his employer’s two-year-old child at Elemoro, Ibeju-Lekki.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday. She said the mother of the child reported the case to the Elemoro Police Division on September 21.

“The mother of the child reported that her security guard had absconded with her son and mobile phone to an unknown location without her consent. The suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the father of the child, demanding a ransom of N5 million for his release,’’ Adebisi said.

She explained that the police immediately launched a swift response.

“The scene was promptly visited and documented. A man, who stood as guarantor for the suspect before his employment, was taken in for questioning. As efforts to locate the suspect intensified, the police sustained operational pressure through intelligence gathering and coordinated surveillance, and this ultimately forced the suspect to release the child. The operatives continued their manhunt, to demonstrate determination to bring the perpetrator to justice,’’ she added.

According to Adebisi, the operatives of the Tactical Squad (Hyena) tracked and apprehended the suspect on September 23 at about 2:00 p.m. at his hideout in the Elemoro area.

She said the suspect confessed to the crime and remains in police custody, adding that he would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the abduction and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent and capital crimes in the state.

The police urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and advised the public to report suspicious activities to the command or call its emergency lines: 08063299264, 09053872208, and 08087332678.
