Navy Transfers 72 Bags of Cannabis, Four Suspects to NDLEA

The Nigerian Navy has transferred 72 bags of cannabis sativa, each weighing 40kg, along with four suspects, to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Marine Command for further action.

Lt. Hussaini Ibrahim, Base Information Officer of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, announced the transfer on Tuesday, following a successful operation conducted by the Navy’s Quick Response Team on August 25.

The four suspects, three Ghanaians—Godswill Zevor, Monday Kpomeja, and Gbega Agbeko—and one Beninois, Elugbe Philip, were arrested during the operation. The team intercepted the illicit consignment near Lekki Beach after receiving intelligence about suspicious activity in the area.

NNS BEECROFT Commander, Commodore Rafiu Oladejo, represented by Navy Capt. Mutalib Raji, stated that the operation aligns with the strategic directive of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, to maintain a secure maritime environment conducive to economic growth.

The Navy continues to warn perpetrators of illicit drug activities to desist, with the NNS BEECROFT remaining committed to combating drug trafficking to protect the nation’s youth and uphold security.
