Turkish LPG Vessel Ablaze After Drone Debris Strike at Ukraine’s Odesa Port
A Turkish-flagged liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vessel caught fire after being hit by debris from a drone at Ukraine’s Odesa port, Türkiye’s consul general in the region, Muhittin Celik, has confirmed.
The vessel, identified as ORINDA, was struck in the early hours of Monday while unloading at Izmail Port. Celik told Anadolu Agency that all 16 crew members were safely evacuated and are in good health, but warned that the risk of an explosion remains due to the large volume of LPG still onboard.
“The ship’s crew contacted the duty phone of our consulate general and reported the situation. Our staff immediately coordinated with local authorities to ensure consular protection and safeguard the crew,” Celik said.
Firefighters are continuing efforts to cool the vessel by spraying water, with about two-thirds of its cargo still inside. Security measures around the port have been heightened as the company’s technical team prepares to assess whether the ship can be safely refloated.
