UniCal VC ascribes varsity’s success story to workforce support

Prof. Florence Obi, the Vice-Chancellor,  University of Calabar, (UniCal) has ascribed the positive developments in the institution to the massive support of the workforce.

Obi made the remark in Uyo on Thursday while speaking at the 2025 Staff Meritorious Service Award of the university.

She commended the members of staff for their massive support to the management, and commitment to achieving set goals.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 150 staff were honoured across 21 categories during the event.

The vice chancellor said that under her watch, the university through the support of the workforce had joined the league of top universities in the country.

Obi said that UniCal had continued to grow stronger under her administration with the implementation of policies that promoted learning and welfare.

“Students now access results with ease, security on campus is guaranteed, we now have better road networks and reliable transport system.

“The hostel spaces have increased. We have completed several projects that were left untouched, we did all this to make the environment suitable for learning.

“The university now enjoy almost 20 hours of power supply daily, this has helped to boost both academic and administrative works,” she said.

She urged staff of the university to be resilient and committed to service delivery in the interest of promoting learning and character molding.

Earlier, the Chairman, Awards Committee, Prof. Joseph Asor, commended the university management for rewarding hard work.

“This is the fourth award ceremony to be conducted by the current administration. This reward policy has helped immensely to motivate workers,” he said.

Asor who urged members of staff to always uphold work ethics, told the awardees to remain exemplary in their attitude to work
