Nollywood actress Bimbo Thomas has recounted a harrowing incident from the set of Omo Ghetto: The Saga, revealing that armed robbers once attacked the hotel where the cast and crew were staying during filming in Ebute Metta, Lagos.

Speaking in a recent interview on With Chide, Bimbo disclosed that the attackers appeared to be specifically searching for the film’s producer and lead actress, Funke Akindele, following earlier confrontations with hoodlums around the filming location.

According to her, the production frequently faced disruptions because the movie’s portrayal of street life resonated strongly with some youths in the area, who felt it mirrored their realities. Despite heightened security measures, the situation reportedly escalated one night after filming had wrapped up.

Bimbo recalled that close to midnight, the cast heard loud bangs and shouts of “Ole” as the attackers attempted to force their way into the hotel. Panic ensued as the women began praying while the intruders tried to gain entry.

Realising that Funke Akindele was the main target, the actresses attempted to hide her in a room. However, the attackers eventually gained access, repeatedly calling Funke’s name before dragging her downstairs to her car. Bimbo alleged that Funke was forced at gunpoint to sing and dance.

She added that although only a few of the attackers entered the hotel, many others were positioned outside, leaving the cast and crew feeling helpless. The situation was brought under control after security operatives were alerted, gunshots were fired, and the attackers fled.

Describing the incident as a close brush with death, Bimbo said the experience left a lasting emotional impact on everyone involved.

“We truly thank God,” she said, reflecting on a night that could have ended tragically.
