Real Warri Pikin Cancels Warri Show Over Tribal Tensions in Delta State
Popular Nigerian comedian and actress Anita Asuoha, better known as Real Warri Pikin, has cancelled her forthcoming show in Warri, Delta State, citing what she described as growing tribal divisions and tensions in the state.
The comedian made the announcement in an emotional video shared on Instagram, expressing disappointment over the divisions among some ethnic groups in Delta State.
Real Warri Pikin said the situation had made it increasingly difficult and exhausting for her as an entertainer from the state, particularly amid tensions involving the Ijaw, Urhobo and Itsekiri communities.
According to her, she believes people have the right to fight for what they consider just, but questioned the use of violence, oppression and bullying in resolving disagreements.
She said she had personally experienced bullying and oppression in Delta State for about eight years.
Reflecting on her childhood, the comedian said that growing up, the area was commonly referred to as Warri, but that things had changed over the years, with different groups increasingly asserting claims over their ancestral lands and identities.
She also disclosed that she had faced pressure from some individuals to cancel the show, including demands to remove billboards, social media posts, radio jingles and promotional banners advertising the event.
According to her, a petition was also written against the show, while she was allegedly warned that the event would be disrupted if it went ahead.
Real Warri Pikin further revealed that some individuals had even demanded that she remove “Warri” from her stage name.
Expressing her frustration, she appealed for greater understanding and unity, questioning why she should be targeted over what she described as a mistake.
The comedian ultimately announced the cancellation of the show, amid the ongoing controversy and tensions surrounding the event.
She also urged people to pursue their grievances without resorting to violence, oppression or actions that could further deepen divisions among communities in the state.
