Lionel Messi Mourns Father Jorge Messi After His Death
Argentina football superstar Lionel Messi is mourning the death of his father, Jorge Messi, who played a significant role in his life and career.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) expressed its condolences to the Messi family, offering its support during the difficult period.
“From here, we stand in solidarity with the entire family during this difficult time and send the most heartfelt, warm, and affectionate embrace. Strength to you all,” the association said in a statement.
Messi had recently appeared emotional while representing Argentina at the World Cup. Following his side’s 3-0 victory over Algeria, the football icon was seen in tears and later revealed that he was dealing with a difficult personal situation.
He subsequently explained that his emotional reaction was unrelated to football, saying he had gone through “a few difficult, complicated days.”
There was also speculation that Messi’s tears following Argentina’s last-16 victory over Egypt were partly linked to his father’s worsening health.
Days later, the Messi family confirmed that Jorge Messi was receiving medical treatment, without providing further details about his condition.
Jorge was a constant presence throughout his son’s remarkable football career. He supported Messi from his early years at Barcelona and later served as his representative for several years.
The close bond between father and son has been well documented, with Messi previously revealing how much he valued his father’s opinion.
“I always needed my dad’s approval, ever since I was a kid. After every match, I’d ask him what he thought of how I played,” Messi once said.
Jorge Messi’s influence remained an important part of his son’s journey from a young footballer in Argentina to one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.
