INEC recognition strengthens PDP stability, caretaker committee declares
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee has hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recognition of its leadership as a major boost to stability, order and constitutional governance within the party.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led committee described the development as a strategic step toward organising a credible national convention and repositioning the party for the 2027 general elections.
The Wike-backed PDP faction said INEC’s decision came at a critical time, as the party begins preparations for its National Convention and the broader task of presenting credible candidates for the next election cycle.
“By affirming a lawful leadership structure following the Federal High Court judgement, INEC has helped to remove uncertainties capable of undermining the party’s organisational processes and electoral readiness,” the statement said.
The committee also praised INEC for its commitment to due process and the rule of law, noting that such actions strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and reassure party members that legality, not arbitrariness, guides electoral administration.
Calling for unity, the caretaker committee urged party members to set aside internal اختلافات, embrace reconciliation and work collectively to strengthen the PDP ahead of 2027.
“This development should serve as a rallying point for all loyal party faithful. The time has come to set aside differences, embrace reconciliation, and channel our collective energy towards strengthening the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections,” the statement added.
It further called on stakeholders at all levels of the party to support the recognized leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed in organising a successful convention, restoring cohesion, and laying the foundation for the emergence of credible candidates capable of leading the PDP to victory in the next electoral cycle.
