The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Akwa Ibom Command have urged officers of the corps to ensure professionalism, ethics and discipline in executing their duties.

‎The Corps Marshal of the command, Mr Shehu Mohammed, said this during  a sensitisation workshop  held on Wednesday in Uyo.

Mohammed, who was represented by Corps Commander Goddy Aworawo, said the workshop aimed at restoring public  confidence in the FRSC.

‎The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the workshop is, “Discipline Reinforcement and Strengthening of Command and Control in RS6.3 Akwa Ibom Sector Command.”

‎Mohammed revealed that senior officers have been deployed to field commands to address widespread misconduct, including extortion, abuse of authority, and unethical practices.

‎”The deployment of Senior Officers to your Commands is not by coincidence or administrative formality.

‎”It is a deliberate, strategic and urgent intervention arising from recent operational reports that reveal trends we cannot and will not ignore.

‎”These developments demand immediate leadership presence, guidance and corrective action to protect the integrity of our service.

‎”Over the past months, we have observed a disturbing decline in discipline, professionalism and effective command and control in most field Commands.

‎”These lapses have manifested as misconduct, unethical practices, abuse of authority, extortion, reckless enforcement behaviours and other actions that contradict everything this uniform represents and that steadily erode public trust in the Corps,” he said

According to him, discipline and professionalism are non-negotiable, adding that those found guilty of misconduct would be sanctioned.

‎In his remarks, the Akwa Ibom Sector Commander, Mr Francis Ajatta, acknowledged that the workshop was deliberately organised to discourage unprofessional and unethical conduct within the sector.

‎Ajatta urged officers and marshals to embrace the corrective measures, stay open to learning and demonstrate renewed commitment to effective service delivery.
