Military Dismisses Reports of ISWAP Enclave in Borno Community
The military under Operation Hadin Kai has dismissed reports claiming that Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents have established a new enclave in Tuba, Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, describing the claims as false and misleading.
Military sources said troops of the 212 Battalion carried out operations across Tuba and nearby communities including Dusuman, Jabarmari, Gongulong, and Ngom, as well as along the Maiduguri–Monguno and Maiduguri–Mafa highways. According to them, the operations found no evidence of any terrorist enclave, concentration, or movement as alleged in the reports.
The sources expressed concern over what they described as the circulation of unverified stories by some media platforms, warning that such reports could create unnecessary panic among residents and undermine ongoing security efforts.
They cited previous incidents where casualty figures during attacks in Konduga were allegedly exaggerated, with reports claiming that dozens of soldiers were killed without confirmation. The military also referenced earlier claims that insurgents had taken over Ngoshe, which were later contradicted by footage showing troops maintaining control of the area.
While acknowledging that counter-insurgency operations in the North-East still face challenges, the military maintained that troops continue to sustain operational pressure on terrorist groups while securing communities, highways, and key infrastructure across the region.
The sources warned that unverified reports could negatively affect troop morale, endanger civilians, and distort public understanding of the security situation.
They urged journalists and media organisations to verify information before publication and avoid spreading narratives capable of destabilising the country.
Residents were also advised to rely on credible sources of information and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace and stability in Borno State and the wider North-East region.
