Israeli Aviation Officials Urge Immediate Airspace Shutdown Amid Iranian Missile Attacks
Israeli aviation authorities have recommended the “immediate closure” of the country’s airspace as missile strikes from Iran continue in retaliation for joint US-Israeli military actions.
According to Israeli media reports, officials advised Transport Minister Miri Regev to shut down Ben Gurion Airport and suspend most air traffic ahead of the Passover period, allowing only essential flights.
Although restrictions have been in place since the escalation of hostilities, Israel’s airspace remains partially operational, with authorities continuing to assess security risks.
Channel 13 reported that high-level consultations involving aviation and security officials—including representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority and the Airports Authority—were scheduled for Sunday evening to review the situation.
Tensions in the region have intensified since the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28. In response, Tehran has carried out multiple drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting US military installations.
