BBNaija Victory Funded Lifesaving Treatment for My Mother – Laycon

Winner of Big Brother Naija Season 5, Olamilekan Agbeleshe, has revealed that his triumph on the reality show played a crucial role in saving his mother’s life.

Speaking during an interview on the Echo Room podcast, Laycon disclosed that his mother was seriously ill while he was still in the BBNaija house and had deteriorated significantly by the time he exited the show. According to him, the prize money he received as the winner was used to fund her medical treatment.

He stressed that finishing as runner-up would not have provided the financial means needed for her care.

“When I was in the house, my mom was ill. By the time I came out, she was close to death. I’m saying it categorically—if I had not won, if I had come out second, my mom would be dead now,” he said.

Laycon also addressed his transition into the film industry after gaining fame from the show. He noted that early acting offers were driven more by his popularity than his acting experience.

“Before film school and returning to university, producers approached me for roles. But I realized it wasn’t because they had seen me act—it was because of who I am and the attention I could bring to their projects,” he explained.

Responding to speculation that his move into film and education was due to challenges in his music career, Laycon said public opinions vary and are often speculative.

“People will always have their opinions about why you make certain choices—whether it’s music, film, or going back to school. That’s just what people think,” My he added.
