As preparations intensify for the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF), the Host Association, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has announced the appointment of the Voice of Nigeria as the official International & Diaspora Radio Broadcaster for the global gathering.
Chairman of the WPRF National Planning Committee (NPC), Dr. Suleiman Haruna who disclosed this on behalf of the Institute at the VON headquarters in Abuja during the official signing of Memorandum of Agreement between both institutions, stressed that the Agreement is vital in driving a successful event.
Describing VON as a worthy partner in the project, Dr. Haruna noted that the event taking place from 15th—21st November will be a boost in raising the country’s reputation capital, reaffirming its position as a global leader in the discourse for responsible communication.
He expressed hope that with the reforms VON is bringing on board in international media space, it has so much to offer in broadcast coverage and production of programmes, targeting foreign audience.
In his response, the Director General of VON, Jibrin Baba Ndace, a Council Member of NIPR, emphasised that WPRF is not an NIPR project but an event for all Nigerians, assuring full support of the Voice of Nigeria.
“The hosting of WPRF is a significant milestone for Nigeria and indeed the entire African continent. It is an opportunity for us to tell our story. Many people would have been hearing about Nigeria but coming to this country will give them an enhanced understanding. We must showcase our professional experience and capacity.
“Our mandate as Nigeria’s external broadcasting service is to project the nation’s perspectives, value and achievements to the global community and we believe this event will give us the opportunity to carry out this responsibility”, he stated.
While acknowledging NIPR’s immense contribution in his professional growth, the DG assured the readiness of VON to ensure implementation of the MoA and give the event the required maximum exposure especially as it currently broadcasts in nine major languages.
Those present at the signing include: Registrar of NIPR, Chief Uzoma Onyegbadue; Vice Chairman of National Planning Committee of WPRF, Hajiya Maryam Sanusi; the Committee’s Assistant Secretary, Ms. Okeagu Kelechi; and Duke Imandu of the NIPR National Secretariat.
