11 Killed, 3 Injured as Gunmen Attack House Party in South Africa

At least 11 people have been killed and three others injured after three armed men opened fire at a house party in KwaMakhutha township, south of Durban, South Africa.

Police said the attack occurred on Tuesday in KwaMakhutha, KwaZulu-Natal Province, approximately 30 kilometres south of Durban.

According to Reuters and the Associated Press, a woman believed to be pregnant and 13 men were attending the party when the gunmen opened fire.

Police said 10 victims, including the woman, died at the scene, while four others were taken to hospital. One of the injured victims later succumbed to gunshot wounds, bringing the death toll to 11.

The motive for the attack remains unknown. However, police said preliminary investigations indicated that some of the victims were known to authorities, without providing further details.

Security operatives have launched a search for the suspects, who remain at large.

South Africa has one of the world’s highest murder rates, with an average of approximately 60 killings reported daily.
