A High Court of Justice sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State, has sentenced a 37-year-old woman, Fatima Sanda, to two years’ imprisonment for procuring a 16-year-old girl for sexual exploitation.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which prosecuted the case, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

The agency said Justice Aisha M. Ndume of Court 10 convicted Sanda on October 12 for procuring the minor and subjecting her to sexual exploitation by other persons.

The offence contravenes Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, as amended.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered Sanda to pay ₦500,000 in compensation to the victim.

The judgment underscores the legal consequences of offences involving the sexual exploitation of minors.
