Popular Nigerian Islamic Singer Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso Passes Away

Renowned Nigerian Islamic singer Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso has sadly passed away, as confirmed by multiple sources on Tuesday morning.

The news of her demise was first shared by Islamic cleric Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah, who took to Facebook to express his condolences. He wrote, “Our Sympathy goes to the family of Ruqayat Gawat for this great lost! May Allah forgive her shortcomings! RUQAYAT GAWAT IS GONE!”

Jubril Gawat, a relative of the late singer and the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also confirmed her passing through a post on X (formerly Twitter). He quoted a verse from the Quran, stating, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” Q 2 V 156.

Gboyega Akosile, another aide to Governor Sanwo-Olu, echoed the sentiments, saying, “Ina lillahi waina ilaehi rajiun. May the Almighty Allah, who is the giver and taker of life, console the family of my dear brothers @Mr_JAGs @tfk_gawat on the demise of our beloved sister, Rukayat. May Aljannah firdaus be her permanent home. May Allah grant you the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso’s remains are set to be interred later today following Islamic rites. Her passing has left a significant void in the Islamic music community, and tributes continue to pour in from her fans and followers.
