Airtel Nigeria on Saturday joined the global community to celebrate World Teachers Day, paying tribute to the tireless dedication and unparalleled contributions of educators.
The Managing Director, Airtel Nigeria, Mr Carl Cruz, said, in a statement, that teachers are the bedrock of society; imparting knowledge, shaping minds, and fostering growth.
According to Cruz, teachers inspire curiosity, mold characters and provide stability, and their sacrifice, especially in resource-scarce environments, cannot be overstated.
He noted that in Nigeria and Africa, teachers faced unique challenges, yet they continued to inspire hope, fuel progress and build individuals and nations.
Cruz reiterated Airtel’s commitment to education, recognising its role as the foundation of a thriving society.
“Airtel Nigeria supports education through initiatives like Adopt-a-School, UNICEF’s Reimagine Education Programme, One Million Teachers and sustainability training.
“The Adopt-a-School programme has improved infrastructure and learning conditions in seven public schools, while the Reimagine Education Programme has reached over 1,000 pre-secondary schools, impacting countless students and teachers.
“Airtel’s partnership with UNICEF, valued at 57 million dollars, focuses on bridging the digital divide by providing access to digital learning tools, training for teachers, and creating an inclusive learning environment,” Cruz said.
The Airtel boss emphasised the importance of collective involvement in enhancing education, urging governments, organisations, individuals and corporations to support teachers.
“Airtel Nigeria remains steadfast in its commitment to education and the teachers who make it possible,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the World Teachers Day is commemorated annually on Oct. 5 to honour the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO recommendation concerning the status of teachers.
