Anambra State is gripped with anxiety following the disappearance of Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, retired Archbishop of the Niger Province and former Bishop of Nnewi.

Reports indicate that Archbishop Okpala was last seen on Friday when he embarked on a journey to Umuchu, a community in the state, accompanied by his driver. Since then, both men and their vehicle have been untraceable, raising fears of abduction.

In a prayer alert issued on Saturday, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, called on the faithful to intercede fervently for the Archbishop’s safe return. The alert read:

“With a deeply burdened heart, we inform you of the distressing news that our revered Father in God, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, has been missing since yesterday morning. He embarked on a journey to Umuchu but, unfortunately, never arrived at his destination.

“We earnestly plead for your fervent prayers for their safety and swift return. The relevant authorities have been contacted, and we are trusting in God’s divine intervention for a positive resolution.”

Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, stated that he had not yet been briefed on the incident.

As the search intensifies, the church and community members remain hopeful for the Archbishop’s safe recovery.
