Brazilian President Lula Recovering in Intensive Care After Brain Surgery

2 6

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is recovering in stable condition in a São Paulo intensive care unit following surgery to treat a brain bleed.

The procedure was necessitated by complications from a fall he suffered in October, which resulted in trauma to the back of his head and a small brain hemorrhage.

According to a government statement on Tuesday, Lula remains under close observation at the Sirio Libanes Hospital after the intracranial hemorrhage was detected during an MRI scan conducted late Monday in Brasília. The president had sought medical attention after experiencing severe headaches.

The October accident, which caused “significant” head trauma requiring stitches, had already forced Lula to cancel a planned trip to Russia for the BRICS summit. Instead, he participated in the event via videoconference.

Doctors have confirmed that Lula’s recovery is progressing well, and he is expected to remain under medical supervision for the foreseeable future.
