The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Adewale Ajao, has ordered the immediate arrest of a woman accused of severely abusing a 14-year-old maid in Abuja.
This directive follows the circulation of a disturbing viral video showing the girl, identified as Bashariya, recounting her ordeal in Hausa. In the video, visible injuries, including burn marks and bruises, can be seen on her body.
Bashariya, originally from Zamfara State, said her parents fled to an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in the Gwiwa Eka area due to bandit attacks. She was later hired as a domestic worker and brought to Abuja with the promise of a better life.
However, she alleged that she was subjected to starvation, regular beatings, and even burns by her guardian.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that CP Ajao acted swiftly after seeing the video. She added that Divisional Police Officers across the FCT have been instructed to locate and arrest the suspect involved in the abuse.
The video has sparked widespread outrage online, with many calling for justice for the young girl.
