APC Threatens Legal Action Against Kano Chief of Staff Over Palliatives Diversion

The Kano State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to sue Wada Sagagi, Chief of Staff to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, over allegations of diverting and rebranding federal government palliatives meant for the poor and vulnerable.

In a statement released on Saturday by the APC state Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, it was revealed that bags of rice labeled under the “Federal Government Food Security Program” were discovered at Wada Sagagi Islamic School, a private institution owned by Sagagi. These grains were part of the federal government’s efforts to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal on Kano’s residents.

Abbas expressed concern over the repeated incidents of palliative diversions by officials in the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). He called for an independent investigation and prosecution of those involved, warning that the APC would pursue legal action if the state government failed to act.

The statement highlighted previous instances of alleged palliative mismanagement, including the arrest of a government official last December for repackaging grains for personal use. The APC chairman criticized the NNPP government for rebranding federal aid with the governor’s image and the party’s logo, thereby undermining the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Abbas urged the Kano State government to go beyond suspensions and investigations, advocating for full prosecution of those implicated to prevent future occurrences. He also lamented that despite receiving significant aid from the federal government, the intended beneficiaries in Kano had yet to experience the impact, leading to widespread frustration.
