The trial of a 21-year-old Austrian man accused of plotting a دہشتگرد attack on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna is set to begin Tuesday, nearly two years after authorities thwarted the alleged plan.

Prosecutors say the suspect, identified as Beran A. under Austrian privacy laws, pledged allegiance to the Islamic State and prepared to target crowds gathered outside Ernst Happel Stadium during Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour in August 2024. He faces multiple charges, including terrorist offenses and membership in a terrorist organization, and could receive a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Authorities allege the suspect intended to attack thousands of ரசிகர்கள் waiting outside the venue using knives or homemade explosives, with the aim of causing массов casualties. Intelligence shared by the United States contributed to the decision to cancel all three scheduled concerts, which were expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees each night.

Despite the cancellations, fans who had traveled from around the world gathered ברחבי Vienna, turning the city into an impromptu celebration with singalongs and the exchange of friendship bracelets — a hallmark of Swift’s fan culture.

Investigators say the defendant communicated with other members of the Islamic State network and explored ways to acquire weapons and build explosive devices. A search of his apartment on Aug. 7, 2024 — just one day before the first planned show — uncovered bomb-making materials, prosecutors said.

His defense lawyer has indicated that he intends to plead guilty to most of the charges, though specific details have not been disclosed.

The case also involves a second suspect, identified as Arda K., who faces related terrorism charges. Prosecutors allege the two, along with a third individual, were part of a broader plan to coordinate attacks across multiple countries during Ramadan in 2024.

The Vienna plot drew comparisons to the 2017 bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, where a suicide attacker killed 22 people as fans were leaving the venue.

The trial is taking place in Wiener Neustadt, south of Vienna, and proceedings are expected to continue into May.
