Burkina Faso Seeks Bilateral Talks With Nigeria to Reset Diplomatic Relations

Burkina Faso has proposed high-level bilateral talks with Nigeria to review existing areas of cooperation and explore new opportunities for partnership as both countries seek to strengthen their diplomatic relations.
The proposal was made on Friday in Ouagadougou during the presentation of the Letter of Credence by Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Ambassador Syndoph Endoni.
Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Marie Traoré, received the Nigerian envoy and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to deepening relations with Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy.
Traoré described Endoni’s assumption of duty as an opportunity to reinforce the longstanding ties between the two countries.
He pointed to the shared history, cultural heritage and common regional challenges that continue to connect Nigeria and Burkina Faso.
The minister called for both governments to use the opportunity to reassess existing areas of collaboration and identify new areas of mutual interest.
He proposed the organisation of a high-level bilateral session where Nigeria and Burkina Faso could review their current cooperation and develop a fresh framework for future engagement.
The move comes as both countries seek to strengthen diplomatic ties and expand cooperation amid evolving political and security challenges in the West African region.
The proposed dialogue is expected to provide a platform for both governments to address areas of mutual concern while identifying opportunities for closer economic, political and regional cooperation.
