Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Blogger VeryDarkMan Over Alleged Defamation of Gospel Singer Mercy Chinwo
The Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of blogger Martins Vincent Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan (VDM), following his failure to appear in court to address charges of criminal defamation against renowned gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
The court had previously summoned VDM on March 5, 2025, in response to allegations that he made defamatory statements on social media, accusing Chinwo of involvement in a contractual dispute and the alleged misappropriation of $345,000 linked to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee Tee.
Chinwo’s legal team presented documentary evidence, including emails and payment receipts, to refute VDM’s claims, asserting that the allegations were baseless and damaging to her reputation.
In addition to the criminal defamation case, Chinwo has filed a civil lawsuit against VDM, seeking N1.1 billion in damages for the alleged defamatory statements.
VDM’s attorney, Deji Adeyanju, acknowledged the issuance of the bench warrant, stating, “Yes, a bench warrant has been issued against him for failure to show up in court.”
The court has directed law enforcement agencies to apprehend VDM and ensure his appearance to address the charges.
