One person was killed and another injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian Black Sea port of Tuapse, local authorities said early Monday.

Veniamin Kondratyev, governor of the Krasnodar region, said a fire broke out at the port following the strike.

Drone debris also damaged several buildings in the city, including a school and a kindergarten, he wrote on Telegram.

Ukrainian outlet The Kyiv Independent, citing local residents, reported multiple explosions, burning refinery tanks and large flames in the port area.

The port, located about 75 kilometres north-west of Sochi, is one of Russia’s key oil export hubs on the Black Sea. It is home to a refinery owned by Rosneft, the country’s largest oil producer.

The facility had already been targeted in a Ukrainian attack last week.

Ukraine has been resisting Russia’s full-scale invasion for more than four years with support from Western allies.

On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said strikes on Russian oil infrastructure had resulted in losses of at least 2.3 billion dollars in oil revenue.

According to The Kyiv Independent, drone attacks and the seizure of vessels linked to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” have disrupted roughly 40 per cent of the country’s oil export capacity in April.

However, the reports could not be independently verified.
