The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has described the death of former Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Turner Timinipre Isoun, as a major loss to Nigeria’s digital transformation journey, saying the country has lost one of the visionaries whose ideas and leadership helped shape its technology ecosystem.
In a statement issued on behalf of the agency by the Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, NITDA paid glowing tribute to the late professor, whose commitment to technology-driven national development laid the groundwork for the establishment and growth of the agency.
According to NITDA, Professor Isoun’s foresight and unwavering belief in innovation, knowledge and merit played a defining role in positioning digital technology as a catalyst for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
The agency noted that his contributions extended beyond institution-building, describing him as a respected scholar and “digital philosopher” whose ideas transcended national boundaries and influenced the broader technology landscape in Africa and beyond.
NITDA said Professor Isoun remained a steadfast advocate of a merit-based society and consistently promoted innovation as the foundation for sustainable national development.
The agency added that although his passing has created a significant void within Nigeria’s technology ecosystem, his enduring legacy would continue through the institutions he helped establish, the policies he inspired and the generations of innovators he influenced.
It stressed that the values of integrity, excellence, resilience and selfless service, which defined the late professor’s public life, would continue to guide NITDA in its mission of driving Nigeria’s digital economy.
The Director-General, management and staff of the agency extended their condolences to Professor Isoun’s family, friends, professional associates and all those whose lives he impacted.
NITDA also prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and for divine comfort for all those mourning the renowned scholar and pioneer of Nigeria’s digital transformation.
