Eid-el-Kabir: FG Slashes Train Fares by 50% Nationwide
The Federal Government has approved a 50 per cent reduction in fares for all passenger train services operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Transportation and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Funsho Adebiyi.
According to the ministry, the fare discount takes effect from Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and will remain valid until Monday, June 1, 2026.
The government said the initiative was introduced to ease transportation costs for Nigerians travelling across the country during the festive season.
Under the arrangement, ticket prices on all NRC routes nationwide have been reduced to half of the current approved fares.
The ministry also disclosed that passengers who bought tickets before the announcement at the old rates would receive a 50 per cent rebate. The rebate can be used for train trips on or before June 1, 2026.
It added that train schedules and timetables would remain unchanged throughout the discount period.
The Federal Ministry of Transportation thanked Nigerians for their continued support and wished Muslim faithful and all travellers a peaceful and memorable Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The NRC currently operates passenger train services on the Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Kaduna and Warri-Itakpe routes, as well as narrow gauge services within Lagos and Ogun states.
