Enzo Fernandez Transfer: Man City Sign Chelsea Midfielder in £125m Move
Manchester City have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez for a British-record-equalling fee of £125 million.
The deal, agreed on Deadline Day after negotiations between the two Premier League clubs over the past 24 hours, matches the £125 million Liverpool paid Newcastle United for striker Alexander Isak on last summer’s Deadline Day.
Fernandez, 25, joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023 for £107 million, which was then a British transfer record.
The midfielder is now expected to undergo a medical before completing a long-term move to Manchester City. Personal terms are not expected to pose any difficulty.
Fernandez previously worked with City manager Enzo Maresca during Maresca’s time in charge of Chelsea. The City boss is understood to be keen on reuniting with the Argentina international after losing several midfield options this summer.
The transfer represents another major investment in City’s squad. The club had already broken its transfer record this summer with the £116 million signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
Fernandez becomes the fourth player to join a Premier League club for at least £100 million this summer, following Morgan Rogers’ £117 million move to Chelsea, Bradley Barcola’s £123 million transfer to Liverpool and Anderson’s switch to Manchester City.
