Fake Spiritualist Jailed for Sextortion After Defrauding Indian Woman in Abuja

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced a fake spiritualist, Solomon Odigie Moses, to one year in prison for defrauding and sexually blackmailing an Indian woman seeking spiritual assistance.

Justice C.N. Nwabulu convicted and sentenced Moses on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge bordering on cheating and impersonation.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a statement, said Moses was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, after allegedly defrauding the victim of $1,100 through a fake TikTok account where he posed as a spiritual leader known as “Dr Solomon.”

According to the EFCC, the convict received the money through his Zelle payment platform, after which the naira equivalent was transferred into his local bank account.

The commission said Moses later deceived the victim into taking part in a nude spiritual bath, which he allegedly recorded without her consent.

He subsequently threatened to release the video publicly unless she paid him money.

The EFCC said investigations revealed that the victim paid $1,100 to Moses in an attempt to prevent him from publishing the video.

The charge against him stated that he had fraudulently impersonated a spiritual leader through a fictitious TikTok account and obtained $1,100 from the victim under the pretext of providing spiritual prayers and assistance.

The offence was said to be contrary to Section 321 of the Penal Code Act (Abuja), Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990, and punishable under Section 322 of the same Act.

Following his guilty plea, EFCC counsel, Maryam Hayatudeen, urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

Justice Nwabulu subsequently sentenced Moses to one year imprisonment, with an option of a N300,000 fine.

The court also ordered that the $1,100 proceeds of crime be forfeited and returned to the victim through the EFCC.
