The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has urged the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, to step down from the 2027 presidential race and support the NDC.

Kwankwaso made the appeal on Thursday, September 10, while receiving members of the Fulani Farmers Association at his residence in Abuja.

The former Kano State governor called on Atiku, a former vice president, to abandon his presidential ambition and support the NDC ticket, assuring him that he would be accommodated if the party emerges victorious in the 2027 election.

“Step down for us; if we win, we will take care of you,” Kwankwaso said.

The appeal comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition politicians to form alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the aim of challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku remains one of the major opposition figures seeking to contest the presidency in 2027.

Kwankwaso and the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had earlier left the ADC in May amid reported internal disagreements and legal disputes within the party.

The development is coming as opposition figures continue to explore possible alliances and political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
